Oversized 90s Houndstooth

This outfit makes me feel like Cher from Clueless, who has been my fashion inspiration since I was in the 6th grade.
houndstooth
I'm trying to get in the habit of writing a haiku every day and to start including them with blog posts:
knee-socks, mary janes
worn with houndstooth printed shift:
is it too 90s?
houndstooth
(90s dress: thrifted in Portland, originally by Rampage * shoes: thrifted in Utah *socks: Target * vintage bag: thrifted in Minneapolis * earrings: the Gold Door, Portland)
matte green nails
I just discovered Essie's "Matte About You" topcoat and like the effect so much, I'll probably rock matte nails for the rest of August. (polish color: Sally Hansen "Ivy League" *pouch: thrifted in NYC years ago * bracelet: Argentina).
Have you ever tried matte nails?

  1. I love your outfit!  Clueless is one of my favorite movies.  Someday I dream of living in a place where wearing houndstooth doesn't mean you're a rabid Crimson Tide football fan.

And I like the matte effect!  I tried Hard Candy's cheap matte topcoat version and I liked it, but it sort of changed the nail polish color underneath.  Like my very cherry red polish faded to a bright pink.  Does the Essie matte topcoat do that too?

  2. no, this topcoat does not change the color underneath, I can't wait to try it with pinks and colors that change in the light.
I didn't realize houndstooth was used as a football "color"!

  4. It's not an official "color", but Alabama's most famous football coach (Bear Bryant) wore a signature houndstooth hat, hence the association :)  The pattern is *everywhere* down here, on all sorts of football merch.  My friend's husband is such an Alabama fan, he and his groomsmen wore houndstooth vests to the wedding.

  9. Haven't tried it yet, but I think I will since I love your nails.
Love your bangs and your outfit does remind me of Cher. all that talk about Clueless made me miss that show.

  10. Not too 90s! Perfectly 90s. ;) I absolutely love how you combined the houndstooth with knees highs and a printed bag. I wish I could see a close up of the bag.

  11. Me love...  actually, when I first saw the dress I had a freak-out moment because 4 years ago, I found an almost identical dress at Goodwill that looked handmade and out of woolly acrylic,  AND I BOUGHT IT, but then gave it away 2 years later when I couldn't figure out where/how to wear it.... regrets!
